“I love combining many small stones into an array of color and complexity.  Individually, each stone is beautiful and may stand alone, but when several or more are placed together they culminate into something magnificent.” – Robert Russell

Rose Gold Garnet
Cluster Ring

This piece was affectionately titled, “Rosie.” The inspiration for this design was a bouquet of Southern California wild flowers in collaboration with Grace Hays of The Gem Garden in San Marcos, California. This 14K rose gold ring was cast from a CAD designed and hand-carved wax model. The half-round shank was set to size 8. The under-gallery was a custom maze design. Each of the twelve main Tanzanian untreated gem stones were faceted in house in round brilliant designs optimized for Rhodolite garnet and spinel. Each stone was prong set including the nine accenting silver sapphires, which total 1.54 carats. The twelve main gem stones ranged from 6.98 mm to 3.20 mm weighing from 1.51 to .16 carats. This exact ring is not available for purchase. However, it is representative of a design concept that I love and similar gem stone cluster suites may be available to be arranged for that special person’s individual style.

18Kt Yellow Gold
Australian Black Opal
Hoop Earrings

These exquisite 18K gold diamond cut hoop earrings weighing 5.18 grams were retrofitted to include mountings for two solid Lightning Ridge black opals from Australia totaling 8.98 carats in weight. I was intrigued by the use of two stones with similar shapes and slightly different sizes and colors to catch an admirer’s eye. When you look closely at each stone, they present very unique colors from one another. These earrings are not available for purchase, but we have many solid Lightning Ridge black opals to choose from to mount on a made to order set of earring for that special someone.

Cats-Eye Alexandrite
Tanzanite Garnet Ring

This piece got its name “Alex” from the five center cats-eye translucent Alexandrite cabochons in the ring design.  The color palette developed as the faceted stones were being cut to compliment the Alexandrite cabochons.  The 14K white gold ring was cast using a CAD design model with some hand-carving by Grace Hays of The Gem Garden in San Marcos, California to improve the heart shaped under-gallery.  The tapered European shank was set to a size 9 and was intended to be worn on the index finger.  The east/west design incorporated a 2 mm uneven scalloped edge with 2.56 carats of silver sapphire.  The twelve faceted untreated gem stones ranged in size from 5.79 mm to 3.75 mm and weighed from 0.81 to 0.25 carats.  The faceted stones included Tanzanite oriented to highlight its purple and blue planes, purple and blue spinel and sapphire, two purple/green color-change garnets from Kenya, and three blue-green/purple color-change garnets from Madagascar.  This ring is also not available for purchase.  Contact us to inquire whether a suite of stones is available to be incorporated into a similar arrangement for that special someone.

FIRE OPAL PENDANT

The inspiration for the shape and design of the pendant was a flame incorporating the natural colors of Mexican fire opal which naturally mimic the colors of fire. The concept and design of the piece was a true collaboration between Grace Hays and me. We sat down with a selection of faceted fire opals that I cut and the design simply came to be. Grace assembled the metal, which was cast in three pieces from a CAD and hand-carved wax model, and set all of the stones I cut each of the Mexican fire opals using a custom faceting design to maximize light return in the low refractive index material. I also cut the 5.57 carat play of color Mexican fire opal cabochon, which Grace let me pluck from one of her many secret stashes of gem rough. All of the stones used in this design were natural and untreated. I love mixing faceted stones with cabochons in my pieces, which made this design a real pleasure to bring to fruition.  This piece is still available for purchase.  Please contact me for price and further details.
